This trail will create an east-west connection between Kennesaw Mountain and the Chattahoochee River. Alternate names for this stream include Rotten Wood Creek. Rottenwood Creek Trail is part of a larger effort by the City of Marietta and its partners to expand the current trail network by developing a connection piece between the Mountain to River Trail and the Bob Callan Trail. We will take the trail from Paces Mill to the Rottenwood Creek trail. Rottenwood Creek is a stream located just 1.2 miles from Vinings, in Cobb County, in the state of Georgia, United States, near Smyrna, GA. We will convene by the restroom building in the back parking lot at Paces Mill off Cobb Parkway bridge. We will start at the restrooms (which are open) in the back of the Paces Mill Boat Ramp lotĭrive to Paces Mill for the start. Stay on the paved path, which now follows Rottenwood Creek north, running parallel to I-75 and then Cumberland Boulevard. Here, the trails for the West Palisades parks branch off on two dirt trails to the right. The Rottenwood Creek trail connects the Chattahoochee River trail in West Palisades with the Bob Callan trail and as you may have guessed it follows the Rottenwood Creek which powered the old Akers Mill and provides minor cascades for us to enjoy along the way for much of the hike. Immediately afterward, the trail crosses over Rottenwood Creek where it flows into the Hooch. Paces Mill is a great trail for all types. Smelled like someone cooked in the room and it never came out (like fish, maybe?). The trail will link to the Rottenwood Creek Trail, Silver Comet Cumberland Connector and the Kennesaw Mountain to Chattahoochee River Trail. Room had a slight odor upon walking in that we got used to. This is good for people NOT walking to the con, who want a separate sitting area from the room/bed. The room was pretty clean, there was a bit of oreo left on the floor from the last occupant that was under a chair, and it was a little dusty inside the closet. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows caused my partner to have some trouble, as they were way too soft and required layering.

The hotel offers a free breakfast, but we didn't wake up in time for it during our stay. Larger paid lot (3 per day) at South trailhead. This paved trail ribbons along Rottenwood Creek for an uninterrupted 4-mile out and back rolling hill run in Vinings. Parking: Limited free parking at North trailhead (about 10 spaces). Pass Interstate N Pkwy SE, then take the next right at a sign for Bob Callan Trail. The hotel offers a free shuttle to a location within a 5 mile radius, but luckily we had a car and did not need the shuttle. Finding the primary trailhead: Take I-75 North to exit 258. It was close to the convention center, (Waverly and Galleria area) but I would not walk it, as it requires crossing a very busy and under construction road.
